Chapter 10. Managing the Boot Process

by Michael O'Mara

When you turn on your computer, the system doesn't instantly spring to life with the Windows NT environment appearing in the blink of an eye. Instead, the system embarks on a boot process consisting of several steps. Most of those steps happen automatically, outside your direct control. However, there are some parts of the boot process that you can control, ranging from choosing what operating system to load to displaying troubleshooting information about the boot process. That's what this chapter is all about.
