Part VIII: Appendixes > Maintaining Windows NT with Service Packs

Appendix B. Maintaining Windows NT with Service Packs

by Paul Sanna

Microsoft uses service packs to maintain Windows Windows NT Workstation NT Workstation (and Windows NT Server). A service pack is an update to one or more Windows NT Workstation files for the purpose of fixing a problem in the software. The service pack usually includes a program that helps automate the application of the service pack. As problems are reported to Microsoft, a decision is made as to whether and when to fix these bugs. When enough bug fixes have collected in the queue, Microsoft creates and releases a service pack.
