Understanding the Command Prompt

The command prompt, or MS-DOS prompt, is a character-based interface to Windows NT. What that means is that you can type in commands at a prompt to perform tasks, to run applications, and to otherwise control the computer, your files and directories, and your programs.

You can use the command prompt to perform the following operations:
