Lesson 4. Using Dialog Boxes > What Is a Dialog Box?

What Is a Dialog Box?

Windows NT and Windows applications use dialog boxes to exchange information with you. As you learned in Lesson 3, a menu command followed by an ellipsis (…) indicates that a dialog box will appear. A dialog box asks for related information the program needs in order to complete the operation.

Note

What are Property Sheets? Windows NT also uses the term "property sheets" to describe a type of dialog box. A property sheet generally presents information—such as free space on a hard drive, file attributes, and so on—about a selected element in Windows. Property sheets generally supply information and often offer options, just like dialog boxes.
