Lesson 19. Sharing Folders and Files > Changing Sharing Properties

Changing Sharing Properties

Sharing properties include the number of users allowed to connect to a shared folder and the comment information. You can change these sharing properties at any time, as long as you are logged on to the network as a member of the Administrators or Power Users group. To change sharing properties for folders, follow these steps:

  1. In the left pane of the Explorer, select the shared folder for which you want to change properties.

  2. Choose File, Properties. The folder's Properties dialog box appears.

  3. Choose the Sharing tab and change any of the following sharing properties for the selected folder:

    • In the Comment text box, enter a new description or replace the current one.

    • In the User Limit area, change the option for the maximum number of users allowed to access the selected folder.

    • Choose the New Share button to assign another share name to the folder. In the New Share dialog box, enter a new share name and comment, apply a user limit, and click OK. The dialog box closes, and Windows adds the new share name to the Shared Folder dialog box.

  4. Click OK to close the dialog box and put the changes into effect.
