Understanding Group Memberships

Windows NT creates several groups of users within the workstation and the network, including Administrators, Power Users, Users, Guests, Backup Operators, and special groups. Each group has certain access rights on the network. For example, the Guests group has very limited access to resources, files, printers, and so on within the network.

The system administrator assigns each person on the network to a group, thus granting that person certain access rights assigned to the group. The following list describes each group and its network access rights:
