Granting Permission for File Use

When you set permissions on a file, you're indicating the type of access a group or user has to that file. A file inherits its permissions from the folder if it's created in a folder.

Understanding Standard File Permissions

You set file permissions from a standard list of permissions. Windows NT uses a set of abbreviations to indicate which permissions are granted. Table 20.1 lists the standard permissions for file access, their abbreviations, and a brief description of each permission.
