Chapter 7.3. Windows Installer > Customizing Packages

Customizing Packages

Third-party apps such as WinINSTALL LE can be used to modify some of the information in either a repackaged or original .msi file. Almost anything in an .msi file can be edited by opening it in the WinINSTALL LE's Windows Installer Package Editor. However, changing many of the entries in an .msi file runs the risk of ruining the .msi files' capability to install the application. Changes to features and components should be handled through either Patch (.msp) files or Transform (.mst) files.

For more information, see Chapter 7.2, "Publishing and Assigning Applications."
