Chapter 8.8. Terminal Services > Connecting and Disconnecting Sessions

Connecting and Disconnecting Sessions

You can either log off or disconnect from a Terminal Server session. Both are available on the Start menu. The command lines logoff and tsdiscon will also log off or disconnect a session, respectively.

Logging off closes the session and stops all programs that the user was running. Disconnecting leaves the session running on the Terminal Server. You can reconnect later and pick up where you left off. While you are disconnected, the session continues to run your applications, except the user interface has been disconnected. This is a good way to run time-consuming tasks such as large queries.
