Publishing Printers in the Directory

Besides storing details of computers and users, Windows 2000's Active Directory can store information about shared folders and shared printers. In the case of printers, the information stored in the directory includes most of the information on the general page of the printer. This information is then accessible to Active Directory clients and is said to be published or the object (the printer in this case) is said to be listed. When a printer is shared on a computer that belongs to a Windows 2000 Domain, the administrator has the option to publish the printer in the directory by checking the box labeled List in the Directory. The printer shown in Figure 5.5.6 has recently been published and the note under the check box says that the directory has not completed.
