Chapter 7.2. Publishing and Assigning Ap... > Creating Software Policy Templates

Creating Software Policy Templates

Application packages provide varying support for customizing the user's environment. Some applications, such as Microsoft Office, provide wizards that support creation of a user profile to control items such as the shortcuts and the location of various files. But other programs will install only the basic application. One workaround for packages that lack this type of customization is to create a custom administrative template. This .adm file can be loaded into the GPO along with the software package. Customization of the user's environment can then be handled by modifying the Registry through the .adm file.

For more information, see Chapter 6.3, "Group Policies."
