Removing Applications

Uninstalling applications cleanly has always been a problem in the Windows environment. Some vendors have created uninstall routines that will remove most of the Registry settings, shortcuts, icons, files, and directories used by an application. But this type of support is not universal and each vendor implements it differently.

The Windows Installer service supports two levels of uninstallation support. The first is a simple clean removal of application. The second is the capability to "roll back" an installation by replacing the files and Registry entries removed or changed during an installation.
