Chapter 6.1. Overview of Managing User D... > Overview of User Desktop Management

Overview of User Desktop Management

To date, the control and maintenance of the corporate user environment, mainly the desktop, has been only partially attainable. The initial Windows NT integration of profiles and policies allowed light customization and control, but lacked the robust scope that was truly needed. Windows 2000 addresses this need, providing functions such as hierarchal processing, extensible parameters to meet unique corporate needs, secure maintenance and delegation, and a single integrated interface for modifications to Group Policy Objects. This chapter will delve into the options for architecture and application of profiles and Group Policy Objects in your Windows 2000 environment.
