The Boot Process

Installing and configuring Windows 2000 also includes managing the Windows 2000 boot process. It is important for an administrator to understand how Windows 2000 starts, what files or components are accessed, and how to recover when the system fails to boot. This will assist you in troubleshooting system boot problems.

For a description of the normal process of booting Windows 2000 and the options for modifying the boot process, see Chapter 2.5, "The Boot Process." For a description of ways of recovering a system that will no longer boot, see Chapter 5.7, "Protecting Data."
