Troubleshooting

When troubleshooting problems with logging on or connecting to a network resource, here are the first things to check:

  • Make sure that you have network connectivity. Try pinging a known server on a remote IP subnet.

  • If logging on interactively, check the username and password to ensure that they are entered correctly (passwords are case-sensitive; usernames are not). If necessary, reset the user password in Active Directory.

  • Verify the configuration of TCP/IP, especially the name server addresses (DNS and WINS). Verify that the name servers are online and responding.

  • Verify that all Domain Controllers required for authentication are available. Verify that a Global Catalog server is available.
