Chapter 5.8. Internet Information Server > Installing and Configuring Internet ...

Installing and Configuring Internet Information Server

Microsoft's IIS is part of a standard Windows 2000 Server install. You have the option of installing IIS 5.0 when you first install Windows 2000, or you can add it at any time. If you wish to install IIS as part of the Windows 2000 install, you will find the process to be intuitive and painless.

If you have installed Windows 2000, you probably already have Internet Information Server installed. When you are prompted with the list of Windows 2000 Server components to pick from, you'll notice that the option for "Internet Information Services" is checked by default. Microsoft has it set so that a standard IIS configuration is installed when you setup Windows 2000. To check, go to Start, Programs, Administrative Tools and look for Internet Services Manager.
