Disk Quotas

One of most requested additions for Windows NT was the capability to limit the amount of space used by a specific user. This has been added in Windows 2000. The system works by calculating the sum of file sizes for each user owning files on the disk. The quota system can prevent users writing to the disk if it would take them over their quota or simply log an event to the event log. Quotas work by the owner of a file, so it applies to users and not groups, and they work with the uncompressed file size; if a user exceeds their quota, compressing files will not help.
