File and Disk Utilities

When managing files and disks, there are several functions that you need to be aware of. The following sections discuss the tasks of encryption, compression, defragmentation, and recovering deleted files.

Encrypted Files

A new feature of Windows 2000 is the capability to encrypt files on the disk. Although this provides some protection against unauthorized reading of the file, it needs to be understood clearly to avoid problems.
