DHCP Scopes

A scope is used to set aside a range or pool of consecutive IP addresses to distribute to clients. The scope also has properties that determine the lease time for the addresses it gives out and the IP configuration options that will be provided to clients. A scope can span up to a single subnet. To combine scopes into a larger administrative entity, superscopes (discussed later in this chapter) need to be used.

Creating a Scope

To create a new scope, highlight a server in the Console, choose New Scope from the Action menu, and the New Scope Wizard will walk you through scope creation. Before you start, try to determine the following:
