Do You Need a Network?

If you have more than one PC in your home or small office, you can share resources between them by setting up a LAN. Even the most basic two-PC network can offer some significant advantages:

  • Shared storage space

By sharing certain folders on your computer, you allow anyone on the network to open a shared report or play a music file in Windows Media Player.

  • Shared printers

Do you have a laser printer connected to one computer and a color inkjet printer connected to another PC? By sharing those printers, you allow everyone else on the network to use whichever printer they want.

  • Shared Internet connection

This benefit is especially important if you have a fast Internet connection, such as a cable modem. With a little extra hardware, you can share the Internet connection with every other computer on the network.

  • Games

Do you like the head-to-head action of multiplayer games? Over a fast LAN, these games take on a whole new dimension.
