Sharing a Folder with Other Network Users

The Shared Documents folder provides a convenient way to share documents with other people who use your computer. In this section, I’ll show you how to share documents (in the Shared Documents folder or elsewhere) with other users on your network.

Enabling Network Access to Your Computer

On a clean installation of Windows XP, network sharing is disabled. The easiest way to enable network sharing is to run the Network Setup Wizard, as discussed earlier in this chapter. If you haven’t yet run the wizard, when you attempt to share a folder the Network Sharing And Security frame on the Sharing tab in the folder’s properties dialog box displays the explanatory message shown below.
