Organizing Files

How do you make sense of the mountain of files stored in the My Documents folder? For starters, try to use file names that are short but descriptive. Use a filing and file-naming system that makes sense to you, so you can quickly see from a file’s name what’s inside. Use folders to keep similar files together and to keep the number of files in any one window to a manageable size.

To manage files, you’ll use a variety of tasks: renaming files, moving them between folders, and creating copies. Before you can do anything, however, you must master the process of selecting files. Oh sure, you can rename and move files one at a time, but you’ll be much more effective when you learn to work on multiple files at the same time.
