Chapter 13. Managing User Accounts > Using the Guest Account

Using the Guest Account

The Guest account is a special account that’s intended for use by occasional users to whom you want to provide secure, limited access. You might find it useful to configure the Guest account for use by a visitor, houseguest, or babysitter, for example.

The Guest account has access to your computer’s programs, to files in the Shared Documents folder, and to files in the Guest profile. This gives a guest sufficient tools to check e-mail, browse the Web, and work on his or her own documents as well as those stored in Shared Documents. However, a Guest account user can’t view or modify other users’ documents, nor can a Guest user modify system settings, install programs, create or modify the Guest password, or otherwise damage your computer.
