Creating a New Account

When you install Windows XP from its original CD-ROM on a new computer, the setup program gives you an opportunity to create an account for each user. However, if you’ve already installed Windows—or if Windows was preinstalled by your computer manufacturer—that opportunity is past. What you see on the Welcome screen represents your current collection of user accounts. Creating a new account at any time is a simple process, however.

To create a user account—and to perform many other account-management tasks—use the User Accounts option in Control Panel. It’s one of the easier ones to find. A User Accounts icon appears whether you use Category view or Classic view. Figure 13-1 shows the User Accounts window.
