Chapter 9. Making Windows Work Your Way > Redecorate Your Desktop

Redecorate Your Desktop

Would you wear the same outfit day after day after day? Of course not. So why stare at the same background every time you start Windows? You can liven up your desktop by using a graphic image as wallpaper. Windows XP uses the Bliss image—an idyllic scene of a deserted pasture—as its default wallpaper. However, you can customize your desktop to reflect a bit of your own personality. In addition to adding a suitable background image, you can change colors and fonts for window titles and hide icons so that they don’t obscure your desktop.

Tip

The selection of pictures available for you to choose as a background consists of images included with Windows as well as the contents of your My Pictures folder. If you have an image you want to use, just make sure you add it to the My Pictures folder first.
