Chapter 9. Making Windows Work Your Way > Streamline Your Start Menu

Streamline Your Start Menu

The Windows XP Start menu is radically different from the one you’ve become used to in earlier versions of Windows. Instead of one column, it has two. The column on the left is almost completely under your control. You decide which program icons you want to include there—presumably those you use most often. In the column on the right, Windows displays icons that quickly take you to system folders and common storage locations. You can’t add your own folders to this list, but you can decide to show or hide some of the entries available here.

To modify the Start menu so that it displays the programs you want, just the way you want them, follow these steps.
