Chapter 3. Installing, Uninstalling, and... > Change Programs That Run Automatical...

Change Programs That Run Automatically at Startup

You probably use some programs every day; others you use only once in a while. For those you can’t live without, wouldn’t it be handy to have them start up automatically, every time you log on to your computer? You can accomplish this easily, by adding a shortcut to the Startup group on the All Programs menu. Likewise, if you find that you’re not using a program that runs automatically each time you start Windows, you can remove it from the Startup group, speeding up your logon time and freeing up some memory.

One thing to note is that Windows actually has two Startup groups. One belongs only to you, and shortcuts you add here run only when you log on to Windows. The other Startup group is in the All Users folder, and as you might guess, it includes program shortcuts that run whenever any user logs on to the computer.
