Performing File and Content Searches—Spotlight to the Rescue

In addition to organizing your files, the Finder enables you to search for applications and folders by name and documents by filename or by content—as well as by a plethora of other criteria associated with these items (including file types, dates created, and even hidden “metadata” stored with an item).

An easy way to search for an item with a keyword or phrase is by clicking the Spotlight icon at the far right of the menu bar. A text field appears, where you can type your search term. Results begin to appear below the text field even as you continue to type, as shown in Figure 2.14.
