Chapter 17. Using Mail > Using Advanced Features of Mail

Using Advanced Features of Mail

So far in this chapter you've learned how to set up your account, receive and send messages, and work with mailboxes. Those basics probably represent the bulk of your Mail needs. However, there are several additional features of Mail that you may find useful: setting parental controls, synchronizing Mail with .Mac, and applying rules to messages to automate how Mail treats them.

Applying Parental Controls

If you're a parent, you may not want your child being able to email (and receive email from) every other person on the planet. Much like Safari can restrict the URLs a user can visit, Mail can restrict the email addresses a user can send messages to or receive them from. To active this feature, open the Accounts pane of the System Preferences, select the user you wish to restrict, and then click the Parental Controls button. Click the Mail check box; then click Configure. A dialog, shown in Figure 17.19, prompts you for the appropriate restrictions. Use the +/- buttons to add and remove addresses from the list.
