Chapter 5. Setting System Preferences and Universal Access Options

System preferences are settings that control aspects beyond a single application and that might even affect the entire system. Some of Mac OS X's system preferences have already been covered within specific topics. However, some settings don't apply elsewhere. This chapter fills in the remaining gaps in system configuration and lets you know where to find the system preferences discussed in other chapters. It gives special attention to the accessibility features available in System Preferences.

As you've seen in previous chapters, System Preferences items are categorized into four groups, as shown in Figure 5.1. They are Personal, Hardware, Internet & Network, and System.
