64. About Wi-Fi Security


Wireless computing offers many benefits, but there are some accompanying dangers as well. Any network should be protected (for more details, see 66 About Firewalls and Routers). Wireless networks are especially vulnerable. Unless you take some basic steps, there's nothing to prevent any passerby from connecting to your network in the same way that you can connect to it—wirelessly. After all, if you can connect to your network from your backyard, someone passing by can just as easily connect to it from your front yard or from the street.
