Installing Your Scanner

Just five years ago, it was next to impossible to purchase a scanner that did not use a SCSI interface. Now you can purchase scanners that connect to your PC using SCSI, parallel, serial, USB, or proprietary interfaces. Serial interfaces have all but disappeared on scanners, so for all intents and purposes, you only have to choose between SCSI, parallel, USB, and proprietary interfaces.

Because scanners are external devices, you connect them to your PC much the same as you would connect a printer, external CD-ROM drive, or an external tape backup drive. To install your scanner, follow these steps:
