Installing an IDE Drive in Your PC

As mentioned earlier, you can install only two IDE drives or devices on a single IDE controller. Most manufacturers now build two IDE controller connectors on their motherboards so that you can install two hard disk drives on one controller and a CD-ROM drive on the second controller. IDE controller connectors are easy to spot on your motherboard. Just look for two 40-pin connectors side-by-side (see Figure 40.1). On newer systems that support the UltraATA/66 or UltraATA/100 specifications, these connectors will have 80 pins.
