Part VI: Appendices > Creating Aliases

Creating Aliases

An alias is a representation of a file that for all intents and purposes appears to be the file. Windows users will recognize an alias as similar to a desktop shortcut.

Instead of duplicating a file and maintaining two copies, you can create an alias of the original file and place it wherever you’d like. Although the icon for an alias behaves similarly to the icon for an original files, you can tell an alias from the original by the arrow in the icon’s lower-left corner.
