Part VI: Appendices > Moving Files and Folders

Moving Files and Folders

Moving a file changes its location, but doesn’t alter the contents of the file or its creation and modification dates. To move a file, drag its icon to the folder or location where you want it to reside. Folders in Mac OS X 10.2 are spring-loaded. If you would like to move a file to a subfolder, drag the file icon on top of the parent folder until it opens.

If you move a file from one device (such as a disk) to another, the file is copied instead of moved. The original file stays in its current location, and a new version is created on the other storage media. You must delete the original copy of the file if you don’t want to keep multiple versions of it.
