Force Quit a Process

Everything you need to access is in the single Process Viewer window. One of the most useful features of the application is the ability to quit any process you own. If you’ve enabled the root account, you can quit any running program on the machine! To force a process to quit, follow these steps:

1.
Find the process in the Process Viewer.

2.
Highlight the process and choose Quit Process (Option+Command+Q) from the Processes menu.

3.
You are prompted to Quit or Force Quit the application. Choosing Quit attempts to shut down the program safely, but the Force Quit option stops the program immediately.

4.
Click the Quit button if you want, or Cancel to not do anything.
