Q&A

Q1: Can I use Sherlock when my computer is not connected to the Internet?
A1: No. Because Sherlock 3.5 is really just a convenient-to-read repackaging of information from online sources, you must be connected to the Internet to use any of the channels.

If you launch Sherlock without being connected to the Internet, you’ll see a message asking if you would like to connect to the Internet. Clicking OK launches the Internet Connect program discussed in Hour 9, “Setting Up Mac OS X Networking.”

Q2: You wrote that I can add other channels to Sherlock. Where can I find some?
A2: Sherlock 3.5 represents a major revision of previous versions of Sherlock, and plug-ins written for the previous versions don’t work with it. It might take some time for additional channels to become available. Rest assured, however, that the loyal Apple community will rush to fill the Sherlock plug-in void.
