Q&A

Q1: Why can’t I just drag the Mac OS X folders to another drive to copy the system?
A1: Dragging the visible folders and files to another volume wouldn’t copy many of the critical hidden files necessary to operate your computer.
Q2: Is single-user mode the same as opening a Terminal window?
A2: Not exactly. Although it does give you access to the command line, it also gives you root access to the command line. Therefore, it’s potentially far more dangerous than just opening a Terminal prompt.
Q3: Is it really necessary to purchase a third-party disk utility?
A3: Yes, Apple’s built-in utilities cannot (and won’t) fix all drive problems. I highly recommend Micromat’s Drive 10 utility as a comprehensive disk solution.
