Personal System Preferences

The options in the Personal section of System Preferences affect your personal desktop. Each user can decide individual settings without interfering with the settings of others. These items include desktop backgrounds, Dock settings, and login items that we looked at in Hour 2, “Using the Finder and Dock,” and Hour 15, “Sharing Your System: Multiple Users.” In this section, we look at the remaining Personal Preferences panels: General, International, My Account, and Screen Effects.

General

The General Preferences panel enables you to choose between Blue and Graphite for a general color scheme for menus, buttons, and windows on your desktop. You can also pick the highlight color for selected items. Other settings are the placement of arrows in the scrollbars, the number of listings for recent applications and documents, and activation of font smoothing.
