Chapter 29. Windows Media Player 8 > Overview of Windows Media Player 8

Overview of Windows Media Player 8

Media Player is a collection of tools to play and manage audio and video files of various formats, integrated into a single application. In order for your system to support these file types, you will have to download and install each application from its respective vendor. Interestingly enough, RealNetwork licensed the Windows media formats from Microsoft and has integrated playback support of these file formats into their products. This agreement, however, does not include support for Microsoft's new Media Player 8 file formats.
