Summary

This chapter has covered a lot of territory because the Control Panel is a central component of Windows XP. Many of the functions you will find in this concentrated view of the operating system can be accessed from other applications, as was pointed out in this chapter. However, for some, you have to go to the Control Panel itself to find the right program to make your configuration changes.

For those who are used to the old standard Control Panel, you can always use the Classic View and invoke each individual applet icon by icon and avoid the use of the Category view, which is intended to make it easier for the novice to use the Control Panel.
