Choosing and Creating a Theme

The Windows XP Theme tab offers lots of possibilities for customizing the Desktop display theme, such as icons, cursors, sounds, and other display properties, that make your Desktop come alive. Up to now, you have learned about all of the other ways you can customize the appearance and functions of your desktop. Most people use those options before they choose or create a new Desktop theme. The Windows XP theme is the default setting, but you can choose another built-in theme or create your own.

Choosing the Windows 2000 Classic Desktop and Other Themes

If you just don't like the new look of the Windows XP Desktop, you can switch back to the Windows 2000 look (as with the rest of life, it seems that anything more than a few years old is called Classic). To set your Desktop back to the Windows 95/98/ME or NT appearance to which you have probably grown accustomed, use the following steps:
