Chapter 27. Overview of Windows XP Multi... > Using Third-Party Programs

Using Third-Party Programs

Again, although Windows XP offers several new features specific for multimedia applications, you may or may not find them suitable to your purposes. Keep in mind that many applications are available from other vendors that extend the capabilities of the multimedia hardware attached to your computer. In the next chapter, you will learn about using Windows Movie Maker to create your own digital movies to be posted to a Web site, e-mailed to a friend, or burned to a CD.

However, there are many other products to evaluate that go beyond the capabilities offered by Windows XP. For example, Ulead Systems has several multimedia programs ranging from inexpensive to several hundred dollars. You do get what you pay for, however. Check out the many multimedia products from Ulead Systems at http://www.ulead.com/. You can download trial versions of most of the site's software and make your own comparisons. Additionally, products such as those from Ulead allow you to save your work in a variety of formats. You will find that the nice thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from when it comes to multimedia products!
