Chapter 15. Managing Local Users > Adding User Accounts During Setup

Adding User Accounts During Setup

One of the last steps in the Windows XP installation Setup process is the assignment of usernames. The Setup wizard presents you with a dialog box that allows you to enter up to 10 usernames. Windows XP uses these usernames to automatically create accounts; when you log onto the system, you can use the Control Panel to further customize these accounts.

Even if only one person uses the computer, it is a good idea to create at least one user account during the Setup procedure so you can use it (instead of the built-in Administrator account) to manage the system. If more than one person uses the computer, set up an account for each user. That way, you can assign privileges appropriate for each user, track user activity, and control access to change functions.
