Summary

Windows XP Professional is an operating system that represents the next evolutionary step from the proven technologies of earlier Windows NT and Windows 2000 systems. Yet, because of advances in both hardware and software technologies, you will find that Windows XP is a whole new experience from the end-user point of view. In the past you probably used Windows NT or Windows 2000 for your desktop workstation in the business environment, and Windows 95, 98, or ME at home. Now you will find the same technology employed at both home and work. If you use an application at home using the low-end of the Windows XP operating systems, you will find that it will also run on the desktop or server you use at work.

In the next chapter we will look at a few things you need to consider before you upgrade or install Windows XP Professional on your computer. Following that, we will walk through all the steps necessary to install Windows XP Professional.
