Chapter 5. Configuring Accessibility Opt... > Using Handwritten Recognition Device...

Using Handwritten Recognition Devices

This feature, like speech recognition, does not come bundled with the operating system, although some OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) computer vendors may choose to install a handwriting recognition engine in the version of Windows XP installed on their machines. Otherwise, you will again have to purchase another Microsoft product such as the Office XP suite in order to take advantage of this feature. Use the following steps to see if a handwriting recognition engine is installed on your machine:

1.
Click on Start, Control Panel. From Category View, click on Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options.

2.
From the next screen, click on Regional and Language Options.

3.
Choose the Languages tab from the properties sheet that appears.

Tip

If you use the Classic View of the Control Panel, just Click on Start, Control Panel and then the icon Regional and Language to get to this same properties sheet.

4.
At the top of this dialog box, click Details in the Input Languages and Methods section. The Text Services dialog box pops up. Under the section titled Installed Services, click Add.
