Chapter 28. Capturing Images and Video a... > Using Third-Party Software

Using Third-Party Software

In addition to making a direct connection to your camera using the drivers that come with Windows XP, you may find that some devices, especially cameras, come with their own software to load and use for transferring images from your camera. Even if your camera is supported by drivers supplied with the Windows XP installation CD, you will find a lot more software applications with scanners and cameras that go beyond some of the capabilities offered under Windows XP or that are simply easier to use. You should check out any additional software applications that come with your imaging devices and decide if the features they offer are ones you prefer.

Caution

Be wary of software that is shipped with hardware. While the quality of these applications can be excellent, sometimes they are trial versions that will require you to purchase a full version later on. So read the fine print.
