Part: VII Server Health > Creating a Mail Server

Chapter 29. Creating a Mail Server

In This Chapter

The Unix operating system houses the server application that started the e-mail phenomenon—Sendmail. Sendmail is an extremely complex and capable SMTP server. It can provide e-mail services for a small workgroup or an entire corporation. It's little surprise that this software is bundled with Mac OS X.

This chapter will explore the steps needed to activate the dormant Mac OS X Sendmail installation and implement basic security features. In addition, you'll learn how to install POP3 and IMAP servers to deliver e-mail to client computers across a network.
