The Start Menu: Your Windows Cockpit

At the left of your taskbar lies the Start button, a button that you click to display the Start menu. (You can press your keyboard's Windows key to display the Start menu also.) Figure 1.9 shows a typical Start menu. The Start menu gives you access to every part of your computer. Table 1.2 describes what each part of the Start menu does. From the Start menu, you can start programs, check disk space, manage files, and properly shut down the computer. You might also add additional programs at the top of the taskbar to launch those programs more quickly.
