Lesson 10. Using WordPad > Selecting, Cutting, Copying, and Pasting Text

Selecting, Cutting, Copying, and Pasting Text

Before you can work with text, you must select it. To select text with the mouse, click at the beginning of the text and drag the I-beam pointer over the text so that it appears highlighted. To select text with the keyboard, place the insertion point at the beginning of the text, press and hold the Shift key, and use the techniques described in Table 10.1 to move to the end of the text you want to select. When you release the Shift key, the text you marked appears highlighted.

WordPad uses the Windows Clipboard to store any cut or copied text until you cut or copy again. To cut and copy text, select the text first and then use the Edit menu or the Cut and Copy buttons on the toolbar. To paste, move the insertion point to the location in which you want to paste the text and then choose Edit, Paste, or click the Paste button on the toolbar. For more information on cutting, copying, and pasting, see Lesson 7, "Copying, Moving, and Linking Between Windows and Applications."
